Cruising Area

Extending from Sagres in the west along the southern coasts of Portugal and Spain and the Golfo de Cadiz to Gibraltar in the east, this stretch of coastline caters for all tastes.

The rocky cliffs in the west provide spectacular anchorages contrasted with the busier attractions of Lagos and Vilamoura. Moving east the shoreline becomes more accessible and small marinas at Olhao (adjacent to the Reserva Nacionale da Rio Farmosa) and the Vila Real de San Antonio provide excellent opportunities to spend time ashore. Continuing east into Spain unspoilt white sandy beaches are the gateway to the Andalucian wilderness, whilst many of the small towns in the vicinity of Cadiz are renowned for their sherry. The southern tip of Spain offers remarkably varied cruising opportunities. Long sandy beaches and dunes lead into the Parque Natural de la Brena and the nearby town of Brabate is home to some superb restaurants. For enthusiasts Tarifa can be counted as one of Europe's best windsurfing destinations. Ceuta (a Spanish enclave) on the northern tip of Africa and Gibraltar mark the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea and offer distinct experiences. The busy British colony of Gibraltar houses numerous pubs and restaurants whilst Ceuta provides easy access into neighbouring Morocco.
